‘Délicatesse’
Sustainable Evening Bags
Vanina for Net-A-Porter, 2019
Repurposing non-recyclable food packets through handwoven origami.
Some processed food packets such as chips bags are almost impossible to recycle due to their mix of aluminum and plastic layers. They usually end up in landfills where they take hundreds of years to disintegrate.
By offering a glamorous after-life to this non-recyclable resource, the Délicatesse collection aims to raise awareness about the obsoleteness of processed food.
Developed by Vanina for Net-A-Porter’s sustainability platform ‘Net-Sustain’, the collection was realized in collaboration with local NGOs Arcenciel and La Voix de la Femme.
The bags were designed algorithmically to allow for a zero waste transformation of the packets.
‘Délicatesse’
Delicacy, fineness of texture, intricacy of structure, choice of gourmet food, luxuriousness.
The interiors of the bags reveal the multitude of colors and patterns of the collected waste, which has become a treasure to cherish.
About The Brand
VANINA is a social enterprise that spontaneously grew out of a common passion between childhood friends Tatiana Fayad and Joanne Hayek.
It all started with a jewelry line in 2007, and evolved to become a lifestyle label, presenting seasonal collections of jewelry, accessories, and apparel; all proudly handcrafted in Lebanon, and distributed internationally.
Beneath their light and playful glamour, the Vanina products hide a passionately engaged activism that aims to promote local community development through the valorization of craftsmanship and environmental awareness.
